FMICL SEASON FINALE 2015-16

Season Two of FMICL football is over for another Northern winter / Southern summer, and its time to round out the year with a final post.

This year was run as a change-up to the previous season, where we went from one single group of 20 players into three divisions of 32. Also added to the mix was a mid year split of the competition and mix-up of players with promotion and relegation happening around the New Year break.

This made the competition more interesting through the year, but also brought complications. With divisions getting mixed, it was hard to determine an overall season champion, for example.

FMICL Cup

The expanded 32 player competition was perfect for the FMICL Cup as all players were straight into the system with no other qualifying rounds.

And the winner of this years FMICL Cup was division 2's
@ASpeedingCar

A great result that proves the worth of the Cup.

Beaten in the final was
@Ethan_Meldrum
who was last years overall FMICL champion.

Also in the FMICL Cup:

Some other side awards -

Most scored in a single game:
@RudiEdsall6
@Sjhross
5
@Footy_Maths
@RudiEdsall
@Amul82

Rudi scored 6 as the best single Cup game score, with four others getting 5.

Golden Boot:
@ASpeedingCar18
@Ethan_Meldrum13
@RudiEdsall
11
@LaurenceRosen
@DamienBean5

Playing more more games give the Car the advantage in the golden boot. Others trailing scored more per game played, but FIFA give the golden boot to total scored, and so do I. Weel scored Car!

FMICL League Awards:

All the side awards of the 2015-16 FMICL season are listed here. Starting with recognizing the

Top efforts from SJHRoss with 2 nominations in different divisions, The Sarge with 4 nominations.
Good work by MattB with 3 nominations, and with 2 nominations: Harri, RankSW and Kosi.

Draw King!
Most draws across the whole season.
@DamienBean515
@BenCuzzupe12
@Footy_Maths
11
@BrotherAmos
@Amul82
@Lucrious

Damien with a record 15 equalling 15 draws is this years clear Draw King. BAsically a draw every second week.

Correct Tipper
Most correct tips over the whole season.
@CapitalCityCody122
@Sjhross119
@kosifantutti118
@SgtButane117

Cody sets the new benchmark of 122 to be our best season long tipster. Last years best, the Sarge, scored 117 as he did last year.

Big Hitter
Highest score in a single game.
@Hardsy05
7
@kosifantutti
@Smithj_43

There are far too many that got 6 to list here.

"Grande Bretagne, Nil Point":
In Eurovision style, the players who scored Nil Points in a weekend should also be recognised.

That's quite a list, and all those with *'s next to their names - you have done very well!

Correct Tip Streak:
As you can expect, getting 7 correct in a week would put you in prime position to win this, and Hardy Kosi and Smithy all picked up one more to join AndyM and Amos as the correct streak winners with 8.
@Hardsy05
8
@Andrewm_81
@BrotherAmos
@Smithj_43
@kosifantutti

For Amos, that's 2 years in a row winning this award.

Incorrect Tip Streak:
Hardsy gets the oddest double by also heading the feild for not tipping correct.
@Hardsy0514
@Ethan_Meldrum
11
@J_Foreigner
@TheTipsGuru
@LaurenceRosen
@rkw82
@AFLTheory

Fourteen games without a correct tip is impressive, but BenC's 200 from last year is the high water mark.

Main FMICL League Season Awards:

Lets round out the season blogs with the key awards of the year.

League Division Champions:
As you would know, the three divisions and split season creates 6 champions to recognise. They are:

Div 3 Opening Season:
@kosifantutti
Kosi won 13 of 18 games to storm this division.

Div 3 Closing Season:
@Smithj_43

Smithy moves up to Div 2 for 2016-17 after winning on score difference from StatsNick.

Promotion for Smithy and StatsNick, and potential relegation for Luc and Rudi.

Div 2 Opening Season:
@Sjhross
Rosso finished 6 points clear of the rest to get promoted up to Div 1 for the closing season, where he then pushed that group hard and finished 2nd there as well... a top season of tipping.

Div 2 Closing Season:
@Supermercado99

Mercado won 10 of 18 and tweeted about half way through the season that the promotion party was being planned.

Mercado and Cody go up, while the cup winning Car and Henry make the drop to D3.
Cody also won promotion from D3 to D2 in the opening season, so he has made the leap from the bottom tier to top in a season.

Div 1:
This division is interesting as there is no way to escape the division by going up, so the best stay in that pool.
And this year we have a particularly top tipster as the winner of both the Opening and Closing seasons was...
@SgtButane
Exemplary effort.

Top work from Rosso to gain promotion and then challenge the Sarge. J_F also did enough to stay up.
Ben and Dem will move down to D2.

Post Season Play.

Last season, with a single 20 player division list, a post season finals competition was run.
This year, space was left in the schedule for post season play, but with three divisions and mid year mixing of divisions, it was impractical to run divisional post-season play.

Instead, a new post season system was devised where the best tipsters played off over four weeks. It ran a bit clunky with some tie breakers needed, but in the end the final was between:
@SgtButane
,@NaylorMichael

They tipped the following games.
HOMEAWAYSgtBNayl
SouthamC PalacHH
Derby CHull CiHD
LazioFiorentAA
WatfordSunderlHH
SheffieBrightoHH
NewcastTottenhAA
Mainz 0Hertha HA
Difference Indicator2

But with only two different tips, the Final hinged on Derby-Hull and Mainz-Hertha Berlin. And these games finished:
MHOMEAWAYHARES
2Derby Co v Hull City03A
7Mainz 05 v Hertha B00D

So there was no difference between the players, so an additional 7 games were used for a replay.
HOMEAWAYSgtBNayl
BrightoSheffieHD
Hull CiDerby CHH
Mel VicJeonbukHH
LiverpoSevillaHH
Urawa RFC SeouAD
PortlanNY CityAH
FC TokyShanghaHH
Difference Indicator3

And this time we could determine a winner.
WMHOMEAWAYHARES
SO - 4 R
1Brighton v Sheffield W11D
2Hull City v Derby Co02A
3Mel Victory v Jeonbuk M11D
4Liverpool v Sevilla13A
5Urawa Reds v FC Seoul10H
6Portland v NY City12A
7FC Tokyo v Shanghai SIPG21H

Both players scores finished aggregate 2-2 across the 7 games, but to break the tie there was a pre-match ruling that
Best score over all 7 is the winner, but if tied, first to go one ahead on a match-up starting at 1 and ending at 7 will win.
So with Micheal N scoring first with the Brighton Sheffield draw, he becomes the post season Shootout Champion.
@NaylorMichael

Well done, and thanks to all who played in that (rather clunky) series, particular thanks for the speedy re-tipping to break the ties.

That wraps up official play for season 2015-16... there may be a few blog posts up later as ideas get floated for season 2016-17, and I look forward to feed back on any ideas to progress this comp as well... its your comp as much a mine.

Thanks all for playing - look forward to seeing you all back for action next season
